Bill was an avid outdoorsman (duck hunting and fishing) and had a passion for sports, but especially fast pitch softball. After 45 years of pitching, he was inducted into the Minnesota State Softball (Fast Pitch) Hall of Fame in 1989. Bill enjoyed maintaining a large, annual veggie garden from which he helped to prepare the family meals. In his fifties, he began biking with his wife on single bikes and a few years later on tandem. They could be seen all over Chisago County and many US states putting on thousands of miles every year. He continued to bike until his death. He worked with the Chisago County Parks and Trails Foundation and was helping with plans for the Swedish Immigrant Trail project. Bill was an active member of Harris First Lutheran and held a quiet faith in God and Jesus Christ.
