James B. Carlson


James B. Carlson, proud United States Marine Corps. Veteran, age 77, left us November 22, 2011 to be with family and friends that went before him.

He is survived by son, Dave (Debbie) Sack of Center City; daughter, Carol (Mike) Borman of Danbury, WI; daughter, Vicki Carlson of Lincoln, NE; son, Mike Carlson of Chisago City; brother, Roger (Martha) Carlson of Rochester, four grandsons, one great granddaughter and one great grandson as well as special nephew, Gary Berglund and faithful companion and pet Sherman. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Phebe Carlson, two sisters and two brothers.

He lived in St. Paul and Shafer until he moved to North Branch in 1977. Jim married Joy Sack on December 23, 1961. They later divorced but remained good friends until her death in 2006. Jim attended country school near Mazeppa and Zumbrota, MN and high school in Hastings and general college at the U of M. He joined the Marine Corps at age 17 and spent his golden birthday (5/19/53) boarding ship and sailing out of San Diego Harbor bound for Korea. He was a member of the American Legion Post #85. Jim worked at the American Can Co. and Knox Lumber Co. where he continued friendships until he passed.

Memorial services were Saturday, November 26, 2011 at Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch with Rev. Mark Coughlin officiating. Private family interment will take place at a later date. Arrangements were under the direction of Grandstrand Funeral Home in North Branch. Condolences maybe left at www.grandstrandfh.com.
