Age 86, of Chisago City and formerly of Park Rapids, passed away June 28, 2011.

Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was united in marriage to Jane Stepanek on October 27, 1951 and together, they raised three children, Laurie, Robin and Pat in Forest Lake. Richard is a retired 3M employee. Following his retirement, he and Jane made their home in Park Rapids, MN were they enjoyed living on the lake.

Richard was preceded in death by great granddaughter, Ryeley Hanson; his parents, John and Josephine Flaherty and one brother, John "Jack" Flaherty.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jane (Stepanek) Flaherty; daughters Laurie Hanson (Bryan Fultz) and Robin (Jim Ijams) Flaherty; son Pat (Deb) Flaherty; grandchildren Cory Hanson, Cassie (Ryan) Keppel, Trevor Nowack, Ryan Flaherty (Andria Sterbentz) and Kathleen Flaherty; great grandchildren Ashton and Hayley Hanson and Kyla Keppel; sister, Mary "Peg" Arnold as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, 13060 Lake Blvd., Lindstrom with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. until time of service. Interment with military honors will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
