CL Triathlon is only a week away

In just one week the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Chisago will host the Sixth Annual Chisago Lakes Half Ironman and Sprint Triathlon. This swim, bike, run event draws thousands of athletes from our local area and throughout the United States. Managed by Midwest Sports Events, as part of the 5 STAR Series, this is a USAT-sanctioned event that is intended to "positively impact communities and to help individuals create healthy lifestyles". This years event will be part of the Minnesota Championship Series. With the support of fantastic sponsors and volunteers, we are able to deliver a quality event that is safe, technically sound and exciting for everyone involved.

We appreciate the continuing support of our local sponsors: Fairview Lakes Health Services , The RiverBank MN, Forest Lake Cycle & Skate, AmericInn North Branch, Wild Mountain, Gear West, Hess and Tri Fitness.

The Triathlon will be traveling throughout the Chisago Lakes Area, north to Almelund, Taylors Falls and finishing in Paradise Park, Chisago City. There are three distance events beginning with the Kids' Triathlon at 9 A.M. on Saturday, July 23 and the adult Half Ironman and Sprint distance triathlons begin at 7 A.M. on Sunday, July 24. The Sprint distance includes a ¼-mile swim, 20-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run, while the Half Ironman participants will endure a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run, but will be rewarded by a panoramic view of the Chisago Lakes Area. For registration information visit the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber in Lindstrom, Forest Lake Cycle & Skate or visit www.midwestsportsevents.com.

If you are not planning to participate, but want to support your family or friends - or get a "front row seat" to watch - PLEASE VOLUNTEER! Volunteers are needed throughout the event to help with set-up, to direct spectators and participants on and off the course, to assist with transition between the events, provide refreshments at the aid stations along the course and after the race, and other assignments. All volunteers receive a t-shirt, and are invited to attend a "kick-off" celebration and brief training session on Thursday evening before the event. To volunteer or for more information, please contact the Chamber office at 651-257-1177, or send an email to [email protected]. This is a great opportunity for businesses, organizations, families, neighbors or individuals to support this community. The athletes truly appreciate the scenic area and our hospitality!

Chisago Lakes Triathlon named 'Long Distance Triathlon State Championship'

In its sixth year, the Chisago Lakes Half-Iron and Sprint Triathlon is set for Sunday, July 24, at Paradise Park in Chisago City. The momentum has not stopped since the inaugural event as it has been named the "Long Distance Triathlon State Championship" for 2011. It is currently the fastest growing triathlon in the state.

The Chisago Lakes Triathlon pays homage to the Swedish heritage of the area and the setting of Chisago City gives the triathlon a hometown feeling, but is easy to get to for all triathletes as it is only 40 miles outside of the Twin Cities.

The annual event offers both half iron and sprint distances. The sprint distance includes a ¼-mile swim, 20-mile bike, and 3.1-mile run, while half iron participants will complete a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike, and 13.1-mile run. In addition, a Kids' Triathlon will be held on Saturday, July 24 at Paradise Park for athletes who are between the ages of 3-12 years old.

The Chisago Lakes Triathlon offers athletes a course that is charming from start to finish with the swim taking place at the beach at Paradise Park on Chisago Lake. The bike and run travel along fairly flat routes through the communities of Stacy, Almelund, Taylor Falls, Sunrise and North Branch.

In 2011, more than $5,000 in prize money will be awarded to the top male and female finishers. A portion of the proceeds from the triathlon will benefit Family Pathways and the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, which coordinates volunteers for the event.

Event sponsors have included the official medical sponsor, Fairview Lakes Medical Center/Fairview Sports and Orthopedic Care as well as The River Bank, Forest Lake Cycle and Skate, Gear West, Tri Fitness, Wild Mountain and AmericInn North Branch.
