She moved to Minnesota as a young child and considered herself a native, graduating from St. Paul Johnson High School and Bethesda School of Nursing. Ruby served in England during WWII as an Army nurse with the rank of lieutenant. She was very proud of her service to her country. Ruby was a registered nurse for 44 years, serving her Alma Mater Bethesda Hospital, but also working at the Minneapolis VA Hospital, and retiring in California after working at Palm Springs Hospital for a few years.
After her retirement, Ruby returned to Minnesota in 1996 to join her sister Rita Ward in Lindstrom, MN. She and her sister remained close until Rita's death in 2008. Ruby enjoyed listening to the Twins and Vikings, and until just a few years ago bowled regularly in a league in Lindstrom. Ruby was known by many for her sweet disposition and love of laughter.
