Gary E. Hoefler, age 79 of Lindstrom, passed away November 17, 2011.

Gary was born in Pine City, Minnesota to David and Olive Hoefler. He has an older brother Jerry and little sister Gaye. He married Elly Schwartzwald in June 1953. He served in the US Army going to Japan during the Korean conflict. Four sons were born to Gary and Elly and they were blessed with 13 grandchildren that he was so proud of. He always claimed to be The Boss and constantly told the grandchildren they were lucky to be here as he was the legacy behind the whole family. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing, reading and spending time with family. He was fortunate enough to see one grandchild married this past summer. His passion in later years was helping with gardening. He was proud of his military service and kept up with current events, politics and history. His favorite season of course was fall and watching football.

He was a husband, father, grandfather and a best friend with his wife and family. We will all miss his sense of humor, his generous heart and the love he had for all of us.

Gary is preceded in death by parents David and Olive. He is survived by wife Eleanor; sons Dave (Karla), Peter (Lolly), Mike (Shirley), and Billy (Mariette); 13 grandchildren; brother Jerry (Mary); sister Gaye (Culley); and loving faithful companion Maggie Beroun.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church in Lindstrom. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom. Condolences may be left online at www.grandstrandfh.com.
