Durward G. Johnson, of Chisago City died Friday, Oct. 7 at Isabelle's House at Parmly LifePoints, at the age of 94.

Durward was born March 5, 1917 in Chisago City to John and Josephine Johnson. He graduated from Chisago City High School. In 1942 he entered the US Army. Durward fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was among the first troops that crossed the Rhine River, he was honorably discharged in 1945. After the war he returned to Chisago City and became a journeyman electrician. In 1947 he married Burnell Omath. He was active in the Chisago City Fire Department, served on the city council, and owned and operated the local laundromat.

Durward was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 62 years Burnell; sisters Dolores Hagen and Ardis Schwalbach. He is survived by sons Terry (Sue) of Chisago City, Dennis (MaryKay) of Madison, WI., daughter Barb (Rick) LaValle of Lindstrom, eight grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorial service 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 13 at Zion Lutheran Church in Chisago City. Family will greet friends one half hour before the service. Private interment Chisago Memorial Park.
