Girls Cross Country

North Branch 21, Chisago Lakes 37

In the county duel, North Branch came out on top with their depth at the top of their line up.

Megan Zimmerman just narrowly bested Wildcat Abbi Forsman, as Zimmerman finished in first place at Ki Chi Saga with a 16:12 and Forsman finished in second with a 16:13.

Cassidy White and Alyssa Ramberg of North Branch were the next two girls to finish. White came in at 16:46 and Ramberg came in at 17:00

Wildcat Katie Christy gave Chisago Lakes another strong finish, as she came in fifth place with a time of 17:11, but after her is where the Vikings took control of the meet.

Already with one more runner in than Chisago Lakes, the Vikings sent three more girls, Casey Hovland, Rhianna Rinke and Claire Schraufnagel across the finish line after Christy.

Hovland finished in sixth place in 17:18, Rinke finished in seventh place in 17:25 and Schraufnagel finished in eighth place with a time of 18:16.

The Wildcats broke the run of North Branch competitors with eight finishers of their own, but only the top five times count towards varsity, and the damage was already done.

CL rounded out their varsity scoring with Madi Vukich, Ali Fuller and Liz Coulter.

Mary Cross, who is one of CL's top runners, was scratched because of sorness, Head Coach Ken Orwoll said he'd rather see Cross fully healthy for the upcoming conference championship race than risk any further injury in a dual.

For the meet, North Branch accumulated 21 points while Chisago Lakes had 37.

Boys

Chisago Lakes 19, North Branch 36

The boys Wildcats got a little vengeance by beating the Vikings boys' team and splitting the races on the day.

Luke McKenzie and Andy Magnuson were the top two finishers in the race and for the Wildcats. McKenzie finished in first with a time of 17:51 while Magnuson clocked in with an 18:04 to finish in second place.

Zach Peno of North Branch earned third place, coming in with a time of 18:43, but Chisago Lakes quickly struck back with two finishers of their own in Quinton Lee and Noah Rockenback.

Lee finished the race in 18:59 in fourth place and Rockenback cross the checkered line in 19:09 in fifth place.

North Branch's Kyle Crowell came in sixth place with a time of 19:11, but that didn't stop a flood of four more Chisago Lakes' runners coming in after him. In order, Peter Tengwall, Al Vrudny, Carl Osterberg and Zach West finished in seventh, eighth, ninth and 10th.

Mike Vogel, Jake Petrik and Branden Heidelberger rounded out the top five varsity scorers for North Branch.

Orwoll noted that this meet was used to get ready for the conference meet coming up, and it would determine who would run in that as varsity.

Orwoll was pleased with the results and said that he thinks both of his teams will be ready for the race at the Ponds Golf Course.
