Legacy Christian Academy 4, North Branch 0
A visit to the lions’ den didn’t turn out well for the Viking boys’ hockey team. Their season-long struggles continued as they lost to the Legacy Christian Academy Lions 4-0 last Thursday, February 9 at Schwan’s Super Rink in Blaine. The Vikings were outshot 35-9 for the game. Goalie Kolton Kiester stopped 31 of the 35 shots he faced. Kiester has been busy this season. He has faced 850 shots this season, which is sixth-most among all boys’ high school teams in Minnesota.
Burnett (Wisc.) 7, North Branch 0
Kiester was once again bombarded with shots as Burnett (Wisc.) outshot the Vikings 65-7 on their way to a 7-0 shutout win last Friday, February 10 at Grantsburg Ice Arena in Grantsburg, Wisc. Kiester stopped 58 of the 65 shots he faced. The loss was the sixth in a row for the Vikings, who dropped to 4-17-1 overall on the season. The Vikings have been outscored 40-7 in those six losses.
The Vikings will finish out the regular season with a game against Robbinsdale Cooper this Friday, February 17 at New Hope Ice Arena at 7:00 p.m.
Section Playoffs
The Vikings begin the Section 5A playoffs next week. Currently, it looks like they will be seeded tenth out of the eleven teams in the section. Their first game will most likely be a play-in game next Tuesday, February 21. If the Vikings win that game, they will play a quarterfinal game Thursday, February 23. It looks like undefeated Hermantown and powerful St. Cloud Cathedral will once be the two top seeds in the section. Official section seedings will be decided this Sunday evening, February 19. Game times and opponents will be posted at mshsl.org and Minnesota-scores.net.
