North Branch 57, Robbinsdale Cooper 16

The Viking wrestlers crushed the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks 57-16 in a dual meet last Thursday, January 19 at Robbinsdale Cooper High School in New Hope. The Hawks led 16-15 after the first seven matches, but the Vikings won the last seven, scoring the maximum 42 points with five pins and two forfeits.

Viking head coach Tony Aho said "this was a nice win for the team. Though Cooper is down a bit this year, we have a lot of movement in our line-up and young guys are starting to step up. We are starting to see great potential from Aaron Senne. Aaron made the cut to 113, which looks to have made him quicker and more aggressive. Mitch Anderson looked sharp in his win, as did Zack Sundly and Jordan Mold. Mold is a first-year guy with an outstanding work-ethic which allows him to learn fast."

Cambridge Duals

The Vikings went 1-3 at the Cambridge Duals tourney last Saturday, January 21 at Cambridge-Isanti High School. Seamus Hunter (285) won all four of his matches. Arik Steele took first place in the JV tourney against tough competition. Viking head coach Tony Aho said "though we were only 1-3 on the day, the guys really battled hard. Aaron Senne continues to wrestle well at 113 and Reid Johnson is putting together a nice season at 126. We were very impressed with juniors Jake Pilz and Zack Sundly who are working very hard in practice and carrying that intensity out on to the competition mat. Seamus Hunter looks very confident right now and will be difficult to beat as long as he stays focused and aggressive. Congratulations to Patrick Mork, who went 3-1 on the day and moved into fifth place all time in NB wrestling history with 107 career wins. Patrick is really stepping up as a leader and the team is responding well. We are looking forward to the remainder of the season. If we stay healthy, we can still make some noise."
