Sherwin W. Johnson, “Sherm,” age 73 of Lindstrom died suddenly and unexpectedly on July 28, 2013.
He was born and raised on a farm in the Lindstrom area and graduated from Lindstrom-Center City High School. He left town for a short time for duty in the Naval Air Reserve. Coming home, he married his high school sweetheart, Diane. They raised two children, Kyle and Heather and lived on South Lindstrom Lake. He and Diane had just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last summer.
Until his retirement, he worked as a purchasing manager for Safetran Systems. Sherwin was proud to be from the Lindstrom area. He was extremely active in volunteering in the area- even up until his moment of death after providing volunteer work for the Chisago Lakes Triathlon. He was a volunteer fireman with Lindstrom FD for many years. He was involved with local politics, Chisago Lakes Sportsman’s Club, Trinity Lutheran Church, Lindstrom Historical Society, Karl Oskar Days planning committee, Meals on Wheels, Family Pathways, Boy Scouts and many more. It has been said if you haven’t heard of Sherwin Johnson, you probably weren’t from Lindstrom. Sherwin was a dedicated Christian. He loved his family and greatly missed his son Kyle. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed family gatherings on Sunrise Lake, which he grew up on. He spent time on snowmobile trips with Diane early in their marriage and found Florida to be more “friendly” of a place to visit as of recently. He enjoyed the company of his friends for an early morning coffee and the wave of a passerby on highway 8. Close friends shared in his omelet making skills at the annual July party. He spent many peaceful evenings watching the sun set over the trees of South Lindstrom Lake. Sherwin will be greatly missed by many.
Sherwin is preceded in death by his son, Kyle and his parents, Albert and Tressie. He is survived by his loving wife, Diane; daughter Heather (Craig) Martin; brothers Wayne (Mary) Johnson and Donn (Debbie) Johnson; grandchildren Marly, Rachel, Cameron, Elly and Maxwell along with many other nieces and nephews. Memorial Service 11 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lindstrom. Visitation 5-8 p.m. Friday at Grandstrand Funeral Home, Lindstrom and one hour prior to the service at church. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Condolences may be left online at www.grandstrand fh.com.
