Vernon “Vern” Poulter, age 73, a longtime resident of Chisago City and Lindstrom, and former owner of the Chisago City A&W passed away on Thursday, July 11, 2013. Vern was born March 15, 1940 to Glen and Zona Poulter of Clayton, Wisc. He graduated from Baron High School in 1958. During High School Vern was an all-around athlete and made it to the Wisconsin state track meet. He also enjoyed playing on several town baseball teams after high school.
On July 11, 1959, Vern married Diane Nottom and they moved to South St. Paul, MN. During this time he enjoyed racing cars. He worked at Farmers Union now known as Cenex Corp. and served in the Air National Guard. Vern moved to Chisago City, MN in 1975 when he began owning and operating the A&W. He had previously owned and operated the Stillwater A & W. During the 80’s, he served his community as mayor, city council and EDA member of Chisago City for several terms. He also was a local realtor for many years. Vern was an avid snowmobiler and active member of both snowmobile clubs in the area. He lived to ride. He also enjoyed watching the Twins and was a big NASCAR fan. His favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. He was preceded in death by his sister, father Glen Poulter and Janice Gubusta.
Vern is survived by his wife Diane Poulter; mother Zona Poulter; daughter Roxane Heilig; son-in-law Troy Heilig; grandchildren Derek and Leah Heilig, sister Sylvia Jackson, and brothers John, David and Roger Poulter.
