Vernon Strenke

Vernon Richard Strenke of Center City, MN died Thursday, October 3 at Parmly LifePointes in Chisago City, at the age of 72.

Vern was born February 4, 1941 in Turtle Lake, WI to Albert and Margaret Strenke. He graduated from Turtle Lake High School in 1960. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1960 to 1964. He married Kathryn Mallin on October 16, 1965 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, in Cumberland, WI. Vern and Kathy bought an 80 acre farm in rural Center City and have lived there since 1968. Vern worked for the Minnesota Dept. of Transportation for 40 years on road construction as an inspector and retired in 2006. Vern had many friends and enjoyed working hard as well as playing hard. Vern enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, and a good game of euchre, 500, or cribbage.

Vern is survived by wife Kath;, son Rodman (Danielle); daughter DeAnn (Delbert); three grandchildren Gabriel, Vaughn and Caisa; siblings Reuben, Donald (Robin), Theresa (Monte) Kruger and Clay; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Vern was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Margaret and siblings Raymond, Valerie, Darlene and Dale.

Funeral services 11 AM Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund. Interment at Almelund Cemetery at a later date. Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.  Condolences may be left online at ww.grandstrandfh.com
