She was born on September 15, 1922, on the family farm near Stark, MN. Upon her marriage to Roger she moved to Almelund, where they resided until moving to Lindstrom about 17 years ago. Roger preceded her in death on March 10 of this year.
Family was very important to Irene. She was primarily a homemaker but also clerked at the Ben Franklin in Lindstrom for a number of years. She was an avid league bowler for many years and enjoyed dancing, playing cards and socializing at the many senior events she attended with Roger over the years. For approximately 30 years, up to the age of 90, she played old time music on the accordion at various nursing homes and events in the county and beyond, and on Thursdays played at the Swedish Village Restaurant in Center City.
Irene spent many hours crocheting doilies, afghans and craft items and knitted over 250 of her special Christmas stockings for family and friends. She enjoyed watching the Twins and missed only a handful of televised games the past several years.
She is survived by sons Richard (Judi) of Hibbing and Gary (Gabe) of Ottertail, grandchildren Richard Sellman Jr., Carol Anne Shackleford, Tammy Corenblith, Scott Sellman, Kami Turner, Brian Sellman, Michael Sellman, Chris Sellman, Jeff Sellman, Patrick Sellman, 23 great-grand children and four great great grandchildren, family friend Helmi Harrington and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to Roger, she was preceded in death by a son, Duane; parents Henry and Mable Teeman, a brother Ray Teeman and a sister Grace Sybrant.
A special thank you to Marty and the other residents of the Mapleridge Townhouse who enabled Irene and Roger to live independently until the end of January this year.
Funeral services will be held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Almelund on Thursday, April 9 with visitation at 10 a.m., services at 11 with interment at the Almelund Cemetery, followed by lunch. Arrangements by the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom. Condolences may be left on line at grandstrandfh.com.
