Born with Down’s Syndrome he brought unconditional love to our family and succeeded beyond anyone’s wildest dreams. Phil graduated from North Branch High School in 1981 and 916 Vo Tech in the audio-visual program. Phil worked 17 years at Hazelden, starting by volunteering in the AV Program. There he also wrote his infamous curtain call column critiquing all his favorite movies in which they all were five stars. Phil had a good heart, physically it caused him more suffering than necessary with his Down’s related Alzheimer’s Disease, but his good heart made him so very compassionate and instantly forgiving to all. Known as uncle Bubba when the kids were young he was an exceptional uncle, babysitter, moviegoer and friend.
Philip is preceded in death by his mom, Marcie on December 21, 2012 and is survived by his dad Clarence; sisters Juliann (Brad) Wilcox; Bradley (Elaine) Schaffner and Karin (Louis) Vukich; nieces and nephews, Bart, Madisen and Hunter Vukich; Charlie and Emma Wilcox and Rebekah Schaffner.
Thank you to his special caregivers, Sue Glenna at Seniors on Que, sister, Karin for being an awesome guardian and Fairview Lakes HomeCaring and Hospice. Memorials preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church and Fairview Lakes HomeCaring Hospice.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom with Rev. Don Oldenburg officiating. Serving as organist will be Carol Peterson. Visitation from 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom and also one hour prior to the service at church on Friday. Serving as casketbearers are Bart Vukich, Hunter Vukich, Louis Vukich, Madisen Vukich, Brad Wilcox, Emma Wilcox, Charlie Wilcox and Rebekah Schaffner. Family interment will take place at a later date at Elmhurst Cemetery in St. Paul.
