Richard was raised on the family farm outside of Center City, Minnesota where he attended grade school at the Furuby one-room School. He attended 7th and 8th grade in Lindstrom Minnesota. He joined the Navy in 1944 and was a World War II Veteran. After he left the Navy, he attended Dunwoody College of Technology where he was formally trained in electronics. He moved to Denver, Colorado and worked for Western Electric Company. He met his wife Jean Frankum in Denver and they were married in 1952. He eventually started his own television repair business which he operated for over 30 years. He did return to the family farm with his family for a brief time during 1969 to 1971. Thereafter, he returned to Denver where he lived until his death. He was baptized and confirmed at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Jean and his sister Rosemary Larsen.
He is survived by his brother Roy Goranson and wife Karen of Elk River, Minnesota; sons Richard A. (Rick) Goranson and wife Lisa of Edmond, Oklahoma; Donald L. Goranson, and Marlyn W. Goranson and wife Paula of Denver, Colorado; step-daughter Pamela Guillory and husband Jim of Omaha, Nebraska; step-son Joseph W. Storey and wife Donna, of Oklahoma City. Also survived by his grandchildren Dr. Erin Goranson and husband Ethan Hulme of Edmond, Oklahoma; Erica Goranson of Seattle, Washington and Ellie Goranson of Edmond, Oklahoma, as well as a great granddaughter Darcy Hulme, step-grandchildren and step- great grandchildren.
He was loved dearly by his family and friends and will forever be in our hearts. In accordance with his wishes, a summer Memorial Service in his honor will be held at the Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City Saturday, July 18, at 10:45 a.m.
