Mildred Hasselquist Tengbom was born June 6, 1921 in Center City, Minnesota to Harriet and Nels Hasselquist.

She had a passion for missions and served seven years in Darjeeling, India and 10 years in Tanzania, East Africa.  While on leave from her work in India, she met Rev. Luverne C. Tengbom and married May 23, 1953.  After returning from East Africa, Millie pursued her life long passion for writing and published short stories, articles, and over 25 books. She also spent a great deal of time speaking at retreats, teaching at Writers Conferences and serving the Lutheran Church for the Division of Communication and the Divisions for Global Mission and Ecumenism.  In retirement the church called the Tengboms to serve in Singapore.  In 1991 they moved to Claremont, California where she lived out her life.

Millie is survived by her beloved husband, The Rev. Dr. Luverne Tengbom; four children and their spouses, Rev. Daniel and Rachael Tengbom of Kennewick, WA, Judy Tengbom and her husband Barry Collins, of Arcata, CA, Rev. Janet and Rev. Ron Warnes of Minnesota, and Rev. David Tengbom of Los Angeles.  She leaves 12 grandchildren, one great-grand child, her brother Earl and his wife Joyce, and 13 nieces and nephews.  Two sons, two brothers, three sisters and her parents preceded her in death.

A Memorial Service was held June 24, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Claremont, CA.  Her body is being laid to rest at Chisago Lake Lutheran Cemetery in Center City, Minnesota August 17, 2016 at 1 pm.  Luncheon follows at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church.  Arrangements by the Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom, Minnesota.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grand strandfh.com
