Vicella Ione Carlson, age 92 of Chisago City, MN, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, April 6, 2018, at Birchwood Health Care Center, in Forest Lake, MN.

Vicella was born August 12, 1925, to Leroy and Elida (Oslund) Miller in Olivia, MN.  In 1929, the family moved north to Bruno, MN where Vicella attended school until 1941.  Her family then moved to North Branch, MN where they intended to make their permanent home, however, it was not meant to be.  On September 11, 1942, a tornado went through the area destroying their farm buildings.  Her family found another temporary place to live and buildings for their livestock just a few miles away.  After moving in, the neighbors paid them a friendly visit.  The son of those neighbors, Richard Carlson, became her husband in 1948.  Vicella and Richard lived in Chisago City from then on.

One of Vicella’s goals in life was to donate 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross, which she completed in 1999.  She recruited blood donors for the Red Cross for 45 years.
Church was an important part of her life as she taught Sunday School for 15 years.  Vicella conducted Vacation Bible School and served on many of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church’s committees.  She was Altar Guild Chairperson for over 10 years and hand made the baptism napkins for Zion for 40 years.  She was an active member of her circle and always enjoyed the Bible studies.

Vicella was preceded in death by her parents; husband Richard and two brothers.

She is survived by her four children, Harriet (Jeff) Warren and their two children of Goodhue, MN, Harland (Goldie) Carlson and their daughter of North Branch, MN, Everett (Connie) Carlson and their two children of Lindstrom, MN, and Garice (Mary) Carlson and their four children of North Branch, MN; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Gwen Stromback of Pine River, MN; also several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and a host of friends.

Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in Chisago City.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.  Interment will be in South Green Lake Cemetery.  Memorials are preferred to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation.  Arrangements are with Grandstrand Funeral Home of Lindstrom.
