Karen Bernice Johnson (Olson), age 76, of Chisago City, died Friday, June 7, 2019 in her home at Parmly on the Lake apartments.

Karen was born October 8, 1942 to LaVern and Bernice (Nelson) Olson in Frederic, WI. She grew up on her family farm in Cushing, and for a short time they ran a restaurant in Frederic. During this time, at the age of 6 years old, Karen was run over by a car.  She spent a large portion of her years growing up in and out of the hospital. She was told she would never walk again, but fighting and defying the odds, Karen did walk. She attended Lansdale, a one room school house, until 8th grade, and then began high school in Luck, WI. She later changed school districts to St. Croix Falls High School, and graduated in 1960. Karen was active in her church’s Luther League and learned secretarial skills in high school. After graduation Karen moved to St. Paul, MN, where she worked as a secretary.

She met Charles Johnson, and they were married on October 13, 1962 in Cushing, WI. They moved to the Chisago Lakes Area, where they raised their girls. She worked locally at the Montgomery Ward store, Skinner’s, Eichten’s Cheese House, and worked for over 25 years at Hazelden in Center City, MN.  Karen was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Lindstrom.

Karen was an entertainer, party planner and she loved to cook. She was a loving and faithful wife and mother, a great friend, and most of all a doting grandmother.  Karen had a quiet demeanor and an inner strength that we will miss.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Willard Johnson, her infant daughter, Jenae Lynn, her parents, LaVerne & Bernice Olson, and brother Rodney.   Karen is survived by her daughters, Jodeen Johnson and Rebecca (David) Carlson; grandchildren Alex (Stephanie), Abigail and Allison Carlson, and great grandson Brooks; her sister Ginger (Jerry) Lunde, along with many other relatives and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, June 14, 2019 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lindstrom with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.  Interment at Hillside Cemetery in Center City.

Arrangements by Grandstrand Funeral Home in Lindstrom.  Condolences may be expressed online at www.grandstrandfh.com
