Berndt leaves his wife of 61 years, Kathlene (Miney), his children, Michael (Elissa), Peggy, Paul (Lisa), James (Meg), 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by sons Perry and Nicholas and beloved granddaughter Kelley. Born and raised in Ludington, MI Bernie started his career the night of his high school graduation where he became a deckhand working for the Michigan Ferry Line. Bernie later became a 1st mate working on barges up and down the Mississippi from Minneapolis to the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Great Lakes region. Bernie retired as a regional manager from the Arthur Shuster Company in 1999. Kathy and Bernie traveled and worked together during this time covering the region from St. Louis to California to the Canadian border.
Bernie’s life time hobby was golf, whether on the links, coaching his sons or watching it on TV you knew were to find him on a Sunday.
Bernie will be missed by many as he was a presence around town for 54 years. He was known for being a prankster and his charming smile.
