In the fall of 1961 he left the farm and purchased a house in Lindstrom, and his mother and sister Marilee moved with him.
He found employment right away and worked four and a half years at the Berglund Poultry Farm, which is now Lakeshore Terrace mobile home park. He worked seven and a half years at the Smith Plastic plant in Lindstrom.
He was a member of Panola Methodist Church for many years and served as the church treasurer. In 1948 when the Panola Methodist Church closed, he joined Lindstrom Methodist Church (later known as First United Methodist Church). He held several offices in the church: Men’s Club president, lay leader, official board chairman and helped with several needs in the church. He was a member of the Chisago Lakes Barbershop Chorus for two years. He also was a volunteer driver for home delivery meals for nearly 15 ½ years. He also enjoyed mowing his and the neighbors’ lawns and sharpened many lawn mower blades for various townspeople.
In 2011 Vernon sold his home in Lindstrom and with his sister Marilee, moved to Parmly Lakeview Apartments, and in 2013 Vernon moved to Parmly Residence.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Ada, and brother Loren.
He is survived by his sister Marilee, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, one cousin Rosemarie Ford and many friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parmly on the Lake and Fairview Hospice for their gentle and loving care of Vernon.
Memorial Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2019 at First United Methodist Church in Lindstrom with visitation one hour prior to the service at church.
