Reports of smoke and fires had law enforcement checking out parcels all over the county before spring rain came early this week.  Most of the locations with outdoor burning complaints had valid burn permits.

Minnesota DNR describes the fire risk right now in Chisago County at “moderate’ and permits are required but at this time there are no conditions or variances on burn activity.

There was a three-pile burn that got out of the permit holder’s control, March 15, on 310th Street but firefighters handled it.  A ditch burn on property on North Lakes Trail, going full flame at 1 a.m. March 20, had people calling dispatch with concerns but this one was permitted and controlled.

March 20 also had a call to 9-1-1 about fire on Pleasant Valley near Sierra, in Franconia Township and this too was a known burn event.
One property owner got a permit for a burn pile at the Chisago Lakes Golf Course but apparently forgot it must be monitored and when nobody was seen nearby, authorities got a call to check it out.

Meanwhile a dog bit someone’s arm on March 15 in Center City, at a property on Summit Avenue. Situation is being looked into.

March 17 a report to Lakes Area Police from a man who sent $2,000 worth of gift cards to a party thinking he would win $70,000.  The scam request for gift cards comes from a made-up federal government department. Readers are reminded to NOT EVER send gift cards in exchange for a promised prize of cash or goods.

An RV parked in Nessel Township had its catalytic convertor cut off.

March 20 a quick reacting bystander positioned their car when a possible impaired driver reportedly tried to flee a crash scene, following a two vehicle collision on Olinda Trail at Sylvan, in Lindstrom.  The incident was reported about 2:11 p.m.  Lakes Area Police arrested the driver of a car allegedly missing a secondary street stop sign and hitting a car traveling on Olinda Avenue broadside.

This driver reportedly was leaving the scene as a group of people gathered and the third car was parked to block exit.  Criminal vehicular harm charges were filed against Lynn Marie Filla, 38, of Wyoming. The results of the blood alcohol content testing hadn’t been completed as of press deadline.  Authorities also say this same vehicle was believed to have been involved in a rear-end crash at County Road 14 near Highway 8 reported a little earlier in the day.
