Center City tackles mostly public works topics
Center City Council met August 6 for a regular meeting. All members were in attendance. Mayor Jill Behnke told the council she spoke with the DNR and signed the contract for the new fishing pier. Behnke said it sounds like the new one will be installed after Labor Day.
City Clerk Dana Miron then told the council that Center City had received a contract allowing Shafer’s Dan Cooper to assist with wastewater issues until new city maintenance supervisor Shawn Gallagher gets his license. The contract is for $50 per hour for up to five hours per month. If it extends past 60 days, the city can renew the agreement.
The council then heard from business owners Barry Moe and Kyle Johnson.
They were there to discuss Schulze Avenue. Their businesses have a parking lot that drains onto Schulze Avenue and have had water issues for years. Johnson and Moe met with Bluhm Construction about a new parking lot, but that would require cutting into part of Schulze Avenue and lowering part of it for drainage. Council all agreed that Schulze Avenue is in need of replacing and asked Johnson and Moe to get some hard numbers from Bluhm Construction to present back to them.
In his public works report, maintenance worker Mike Roggeman told the council he has traced the alarms at the well that have been going off to a bad sensor. Roggeman then said the city is close to burning the brush pile at the compost site and will be using Sentence to Serve to help prep and clean up. Roggeman told the council he would also like to replace mulch at Water Tower Park and IG Long Park.
Council then discussed former public works head Eric Garner’s availability. He offered to assist when needed by phone. Council agreed Garner is to keep a phone record of all calls from Center City until the end of the year for reimbursement.
Council also set a budget discussion meeting for Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at city hall.
Council adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
