Shafer City Council met June 4 for a regular meeting.  All members were present.

With a light agenda, the council discussed council and mayor pay.  Council member Patti Kowalski made a motion to raise Mayor pay from $47 to $100 per council and special meeting.  Kowalski also included in her motion to raise council member pay from $50 to $75 per council and special meeting.  Council member Nick Brehm seconded the motion which passed 5-0. Pay raises go into effect January 1 2025.

Kowalski then told the council there has been discussion at the parks commission about a new pickleball court at Buffalo Ridge park.  Kowalski said the commission had an informal quote of $42,000 to install a new court.  Council member Brad Swenson added he thinks the pricing will exceed the $42,000 due to concrete.  Maintenance director Dan Cooper told the council he would need to solicit more quotes because the cost will be over the $25,000 threshold and the city has an ordinance requiring at least three estimates.  He will collect more quotes.

Kowalski added the funding is in the parks fund.  Mayor Paula Hanson added she was excited to have a pickleball court in city limits.

Council adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
