Curtis Peterson
Curtis Allen Peterson, beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend peacefully passed from this life to life everlasting on May 21, 2024, at the age of 84.
Curt was born on June 7, 1939, the third son of Dell and Lillian Peterson. Following Lillian’s death when he was just a toddler, Curt lived first with his maternal grandmother in Willow River and then with a variety of other families until he returned home to live in the Old Towne neighborhood of Chisago City with his father, step-mother Alice and two older brothers when he was six years of age. Following high school, Curt enlisted in the US Air Force. He served as an Inventory Management Specialist at Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii until June 1960. Curt returned home to Chisago City and joined the family business Peterson Potato Company. In 1961 a new family moved into the neighborhood and Curt met the love of his life, Dorothy. They were married in 1963, raised a family and continued to live in Old Towne Chisago City until 1995, at which time they built a house in Lindstrom. Curt retired from the business in 2009. Curt was a quietly generous man who never looked for accolades. He had a strong moral compass and believed in treating people with respect and dignity. In his later years, Curt enjoyed spending time with his family, feeding and watching the birds, and doing his puzzles.
Curt was preceded in death by his parents Dell and Lillian; brothers Dennis and Wayne Peterson, in-laws Roy and Lorraine Knopf and two baby daughters. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy; children, Chris (Michon) and Angela (Keith) Schefers; grandchildren, Sam (Emma) Schefers and Jenna, Sarah, Ashleigh and Joshua Peterson; brothers-in-law Larry (Shirley) Knopf and Dan (Patty) Knopf; sisters-in-law Linda Strain, Virginia Biedler and Sue Knopf; nieces, nephews and friends.
