With the Wildcat boys’ hockey team trailing the Hastings Raider 3-1 midway through the third period, senior Alex Bever and junior Jacob Kletti scored their first varsity goals less than a minute apart to tie the game at 3-3, allowing the Wildcats a 3-3 tie in their season opener Saturday, November 23 at Hastings Ice Arena.  The Wildcats outshot the Raiders 44-34 for the game.  Junior goalie Shandley Corbin stopped 31 of the 34 shots, to earn the tie.

Jonas Schauer scored the only goal of the first period to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead.  The Wildcats tied it up before fans had a chance to get comfortable in their seats at the beginning of the second period.

Landon Kerkow scored just 26 seconds in the period, assisted by Austin Slettom.  Hastings’ Jon Harris scored a shorthanded goal midway through the period, and the Raiders led 2-1 after two periods.

Schauer scored his second goal of the game at 3:30 of the third period to stretch the Raider lead to 3-1.  Alex Bever scored a power play goal for the Wildcats at 9:45 to cut the Hastings lead to 3-2.  And Jacob Kletti tied it up with a goal at 10:30 to tie the game at 3-3.  Max Koch and Slettom picked up the assists.  Neither team scored in the rest of the third period or overtime.

Hockey Hullaballoo

The Wildcats (0-0-1) will host the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets Tuesday, December 3 at 7 p.m. at Chisago Lakes Arena.  The Wildcats beat the Bluejackets in both of their meetings last season.
