Vida Lavina Meland (Hovey), age 88, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2025, in Forest Lake, Minnesota.  

Born on January 22, 1937, in Sauk Center, Minnesota, Vida lived a life marked by dedication, resilience, and love. 

She worked side by side with her beloved husband, Gordon Meland, at Gordy's Pharmacy—a testament to their shared commitment and partnership both in life and work. Their time together was filled with purpose and mutual support.

Vida was a devoted mother to her daughters Susan (Joel) and Barbara. Her love extended deeply into the next generations as well—she was a cherished grandmother to Laurie (Mark), Lisa (Whitney), Tony, and Catey (Mike), and a proud great-grandmother to Abby, Charley, Sydney, Julian, and Eleanor. Her family was the heart of her world. A woman of strong faith, Vida found spiritual grounding through her worship. Her belief sustained her throughout life’s joys and challenges.

Vida found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid quilter whose hands created warmth and beauty for those around her. Her garden bloomed under her care each season, reflecting the patience and nurturing spirit she carried within. 

Vida will be remembered for her hardworking nature and steadfast presence in the lives of those who knew her. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with kindness and quiet strength.

A memorial service honoring Gordon’s and Vida’s lives will be held 11 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church in Center City, Minnesota.
