Say goodbye to a good friend

The community has had a few losses of pillars recently.

A local Veteran who I have become very good friends with over my time here just passed away.  Clark Malcomson was a fixture in the community both as a veteran and as a community member.  Clark was one of the first people to reach out to me when I took over here at the Press.  He made a point to come in and tell me to “Exhale, we got you, you will do great here”.  Words that brought tears to my eyes back then and remembering them now.  Clark assisted in so many events over the years and was always - always positive.  He had a love for his wife Margueritte that was second to none. If I asked him to go out for a drink, he would politely decline and tell me he had to head home to the most beautiful woman in the world.  Incredible.  To say Clark was my friend is probably wording it wrong. His generosity, his zest for life and his love for his bride make him my inspiration and a template for how to live life.

As I wrote here last week - we are putting together our 2025 Community and Visitor Guide and have just a little time to add new businesses.  If you are a business owner and have never been in the guide, I encourage you to give it a try.  The guide goes out to thousands of residents and is dispersed to hotels, restaurants, the Chamber of Commerce, the sculpture park, dentist and doctor waiting rooms and more.  Talk about exposure.  Give us a call at 651-257-5115 or email us at [email protected]. Space is running out, but we will do everything in our power to get you in the guide.

Saturday I saw two side by side UTV’s on the lake.  I stopped walking on the lake almost a week ago now.  No, I haven’t drilled holes to check the depth, but after some extremely warm days recently, and judging by the coloring of the ice, I am guessing it’s just not safe.  Maybe it’s fine for walking on but those utv’s are a lot more weight than most humans (me being the exception).  Please consider re-thinking your dire need for just one more panfish to cap off the winter fishing season.  You are risking your life and also those who potentially will be out on the ice trying to get you out safely.
