Election filings close, many ballots uncontested

The filings for the federal, state and county offices that are up for election this fall closed June 2.  The county commissioner seat being vacated by Jim Swenson, representing the city of North Branch on the county board, has only Tim MacMillan running unopposed.

Other candidates, according to the Minnesota Secretary of State records, include a contest between Commissioner Rick Greene and Chris DuBose for County Board District 2.  DuBose resides in Center City and Greene, the incumbent, lives outside of Almelund.

Commissioner Marlys Dunne has filed for re-election in District 3 and is being challenged by Cyle Cramer, a Chisago City area resident.

County Commissioners Ben Montzka and Dan Dahlberg are not scheduled to run in 2026.

Chisago County Attorney Janet Reiter has no opposition for her re-election.

Sheriff Brandon Thyen also has no challenge against him for re-election.

Soil & Water Conservation District Supervisors Lance Petersen and David Tolberg are running unopposed.

For state offices, District 28 Senator Mark Koran is seeking re-election and has Max Glenna as his challenger. Koran represents all of Chisago County except the very northern 25 percent.  This area and to the west, Senate District 11, is held by Jason Rarick who filed for re-election and is opposed by Mary Carlson.

State Representative Max Rymer for District 28B, which is most of Chisago County, is seeking re-election and is being challenged by Daniel Colten Schmidt.  Representative Jimmy Gordon, whose district takes in the far northwest side of Chisago County is opposed for re-election by Tim Dummer.

Nationally, GOP Congressman Peter Stauber, District 8, filed for re-election and has multiple challengers. The Democrat-endorsed candidate is Trina Swanson, but the Secretary of State has filing forms from Luke Gulbranson, John Munter and Anthony Hamilton.  A primary would be called in August if needed.

Meanwhile, the filing window is from July 14 to July 28 for municipal and school board races.
