Wildcats can’t hang with Hill-Murray in first contest

The Hill Murray Pioneers scored 35 points in the first half on their way to a 49-0 shutout of the Wildcat football team on Friday, September 4 at Mary Queen of Victory Stadium in Maplewood.
The Pioneers’ sophomore quarterback Brayden Hartmann threw for five touchdowns and 290 yards before leaving the game in the third quarter with his team leading 42-0. Wildcat senior quarterback Kaiden Melquist was 3-10 for 51 yards through the air. Junior Carter Anderson led the Wildcats on the ground with six rushes for 48 yards.
The Pioneers led 14-0 after the first quarter and put things out of reach with a 21-point outburst in the second quarter. Their top player, and one of the best players in the entire state, is junior Brady Reeves, a three-star tight end who already has 14 Division 1 offers to play football in college.
Football Notes
The Wildcats (0-1) will host the Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets in the 2026 home opener tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Chisago Lakes High School. After beating Cambridge 47-33 in 2025, the Wildcats lost to the Bluejackets 42-13 last season.
