Time for grad parties, lots of local athletes heading to state tournaments

Congratulations to the Class of 2023 who graduated Monday evening at Chisago Lakes Senior High. North Branch will graduate its seniors on Sunday. Of the kids that I have dealt with over the years, this class seems to be a class of movers and shakers (do people say that anymore??). It seems like every student I have spoken to has a plan in life. Whether it be attending college or heading into the workforce. Very refreshing to see - here is wishing nothing but the best to these young adults and their bright future!

Land purchase declined by Ag Society Board

Members of the County Fair Board have reportedly declined an offer from an area business person to purchase fairground land in Rush City. The county agriculture society heard the acquisition proposal at their regular May meeting (story in Press May 25) from Dennis Frandsen. He offered $1 million and any existing buildings (barns, pole buildings) that the ag society wished to retain and relocate would not be part of the purchase price.

So the past few weeks I have written about a few items that irk me. Last week I was told I am being too negative in my writings so I went back and read them. The tone of the columns did have a negative spin to them, but I thought it was coming across as making a point. I was writing about littering and social media bullying. I don’t have a happy tone in my body to say or write feelings about those subjects. Nonetheless, I apologize if I have come across as negative. I will try to do better.

Fair Board hears land purchase offer

The Chisago County Fair has been in existence for 151 years. Rush City has long been the location where residents and visitors come to have fun for a week. Whether it be rides on the midway or watching a demolition derby or enjoying animal judging, folks have enjoyed the fair.

Memorial Day is a special day, grab your paddle and head to the lake

This weekend is a biggie. I know, I know, it’s the weekend to get stuff ready for summer, and maybe if you are lucky get to the cabin to get it ready for summer. But, I am more referring to the meaning of the long weekend - Memorial Day.
