Fire Prevention week is here

This week is Fire Prevention Week.  It’s our chance to visit our local fire halls and say thanks to the men and women who take the time out of their lives (yes they all are volunteers) to dutifully serve our great county and protect our homes and businesses.  In this Press you will find some large advertisements promoting their open houses.  Most of them take place this Saturday. Chisago City visits the schools during the week instead of an open house.

They all will have food and giveaways and even some smoke alarms.  Lindstrom is excited for the public to finally see their long anticipated new fire hall and all of its bells and whistles.  The new hall is located across from Plastic Products, off Akerson Street.

Center City is holding a 5k prior to their open house (there is an ad in this Press for it).

Almelund is also holding an open house at their fire hall.  Come on out and say hi and defintely bring the kids, enjoy some snacks and remember to thank them for keeping us safe.

Now that the Vikings are pretty much out of the playoff picture on week four, we can for at least focus on the Twins.  This is an exciting time in our house, because we have been to see exactly zero games this year.  As I write this Tuesday the Twins have tied the series up one game each with the Astros.  Let’s hope this is the beginning of a long playoff run.

I have had the good fortune to attend both World Series the Twins have won.  In 1987 I was still a senior in high school and enjoyed the atmosphere more than I appreciated the games.

In 1991 my girlfriend (now wife) and I were lucky enough to attend game seven.  It was something we will never forget.  Hopefully this team will create more memories.

This Saturday after you visit the fire hall open houses, the public is invited to Uncommon Loon brewery for the fourth annual Franks’N’Steins fundraiser.  Proceeds help fund the Chisago Beyond the Yellow Ribbon program.

You will enjoy food and drinks with live music by Ragtown at 7pm. There is a silent auction and $1 for every beer purchased will help fund the CLBTYR.  The event is a free-will donation for admission.  The event runs from 3-10pm.  If you have never been to the Loon it’s  located in Chisago City at 10825 Lake Blvd.
