Celebration of the Lakes still on!
Fair warning: Lots of lake talk ahead....
This weather has everyone buzzing... some good some bad. As you can see by the number of fish shacks on the ice (or lack of), fishing has taken a real hit this winter with the dicey ice conditions. While some people are thrilled to be out of the deep freeze and enjoying sweater weather, there are those who have snowmobiles collecting dust in their front yards. I am told there isn’t snow up north where even on snowless years down here, residents could trailer their sleds to enjoy fun on the trails. This is an oddity to say the least.
As much as we hate shoveling in the winter, the truth is a lot of dollars are being lost this warm winter. I am sure we will have snow at some point this year but when will determine if it will get utilized with snowmobiling, fishing, cross country skiing and so on.
Now onto more lake events. I just got off the phone with the Chisago Lakes Area Chamber and they said as of right now, nothing has been cancelled at the Celebration of the Lakes other than the radar runs. I am told they have a meeting planned with the Sheriff’s Office late this week to determine what can or can’t take place on the ice. Either way, the Chamber has a plan. If deemed unsafe, most events will be moved to land and we will be the first to let you know when and where. If you remember— this has happened a few times in the past and people still had a great time at the celebration. Stay tuned.
There are quite a few things to plan for now at the Celebration of the Lakes. There will most surely be a candle lit trail walk at Allemansratt Park on Feb. 9. There will be a kids’ movie night at Strom Hall at Ojiketa the evening of the 9th. First United Methodist Church is once again hosting their puzzles, pie and soup event. There is a corn hole tournament at the Loon as well as bingo at Jakes on the Lakes.
Saturday, February 10 there is a pickleball tournament at the Wildcat Center, food stands and beer garden at Beach Park, a medallion hunt, s’mores by the fire, turkey bowling, a lasagna dinner at Chisago Lake Lutheran Church, a cribbage tournament, a polka dance at the Lindstrom Community Center, and fireworks over the lake at Beach Park.
Sunday brings a pancake breakfast at Trinity Lutheran, there is a Grumpy Old Men service at Chisago Lake Lutheran, a dodgeball tournament and bingo back at Trinity.
PLENTY of stuff to do!
