Lighting Festival won't look quite the same, but tradition of Royal Lady overcomes COVID

Thanks to the coronavirus, next week’s Taylors Falls Lighting Festival will have a different look from what we’ve come to expect over the last 30 years-- but organizers are betting there’s still quite a lot to cherish in the holiday decorations illuminating a river valley winter night, and in the …

Lions lend a helping hand

Chisago Lakes Lions members Don Bungum, Gary Gerke, Dan and Sally Swanson, were helping the local food shelf by collecting donations at Brink’s Market in Chisago City.  The foursome took in $2,190 last weekend to keep the food shelf program stocked during the upcoming holidays.

Goodbye to a good buddy; make Thanksgiving plans; before 10 p.m.

This week we say goodbye to a dear friend.  Foster Mooney passed away late last week.  Never heard of him? If I showed a picture of him, most of you would say “Ohhh that guy!”  Foster is known for an iconic cowboy hat, his thick framed glasses and his neatly trimmed …

Of thousands of FFA program members in the U.S. fewer than one percent will qualify for the top level achievement possible-- the American Degree. This year one of those recipients is a Chisago Lakes High School grad.

Wildcats lead let slip away before failed two-point attempt

In the Wildcat football team’s belated season opener against Cambridge-Isanti at home last Saturday, October 31, running back Austin Pearson scored with 26.9 seconds left in the game to cut the Bluejacket lead to 35-34.  A successful extra point would likely send the game into overtime.  But the Wildcat coaching …

Chisago County goes for Trump, Stauber and most other incumbents in balloting this week

In Tuesday’s balloting results for Chisago County the theme appears to have been return the incumbents.  The candidates seeking re-election, almost to the person, won.  The county went with incumbents nearly up and down the ticket-- from  supporting President Trump and Mike Pence to bringing back two of three members …

Halloween happened, there is one person glad the election is over - me

On Halloween, Lakes Free Church held their annual Trunk-or-Treat event.  Of course with the whole pandemic thing, somethings had to be altered.  Church and community members dressed in their own costumes and doled out candy, a lot of candy to families who drove through a sea of candy givers.  There …

Cranberries important role

It’s the season of cranberries and a lot of other foods as well. We will soon be  approaching Thanksgiving Day and I don’t know about you, but we always have cranberries in some form, mostly whole cran sauce. I’m not going to talk much about the crimson berry as you …

Can't wait to see their Thanksgiving turkey

Thank you to Don, for snapping a picture of this terrific Halloween project that his wife Bev Anderson was doggedly undertaking....at 1,500 pounds they could safely lay claim to this jack-o-lantern being the biggest in the area for sure.

Trick or treat in downtown Lindstrom

The costumes were creative and the mood was festive for the Chisago Lakes Chamber of Commerce downtown Lindstrom scavenger hunt, Friday before dark...this threesome had a great time horsing around.  Lots of families enjoyed the fresh air and participated in finding scavenger items for a Halloween Grab Bag prize.

Saying goodbye to a dear friend; a pandemic won't stop Halloween

This is the last paper prior to the election.  Normally this is the paper that I tell you to get out and cast your vote.  But from what I learn from everyone I have spoken to it seems like the majority have already cast their vote.  If you are a …

Homemade Halloween treats

Good morning, or afternoon! It’s about sweet treats today. Quite a different subject from what I’ve been writing about lately... veggies and fruits. I was nudged by a couple of our grandchildren about the fact that the cookie jar was getting empty. Chocolate chip cookies are always their favorite, but …
