Carolyn D.(Nyquist) Halstrom was born on April 4, 1917, in Harris, Minnesota, to Carl and Agnes Nyquist. She grew up in Harris, and was confirmed at the Harris Covenant Church. She attended the Harris and North Branch Schools, and graduated from Minnehaha Academy and the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing. She subsequently worked as the first nurse at the Rush City Hospital.

Carolyn married Lloyd C. Halstrom of Pine City in 1943, and was by his side as an Army wife throughout his military career, primarily at assignments in Germany and Fort Lee, VA. When he became a Methodist minister upon his retirement from the Army, she supported his ministry in the Petersburg, VA, area. Throughout their military and ministerial careers, Carolyn worked as a Registered Nurse at Army hospitals in Germany and Fort Lee, VA. When Lloyd retired from his ministry, they moved to Montgomery, AL, the home of their youngest son, Tim. When Lloyd died in 1987, Carolyn moved back to the North Branch area where she lived for five years with her recently widowed son, Jim, and his two children. Then back to Montgomery, AL. In 2009, Carolyn returned to Minnesota to spend her final years close to family and friends in the North Branch and Twin Cities area.

Carolyn's life was one of unmatched love for her family and many friends, her unfailing love for her Lord, and her natural gifts of caring and doing for those with whom she came into contact. She leaves behind a tremendous legacy of love, faith, and serving others; that those who knew her cherish and hold as a high example of a life truly well-lived. She will be greatly missed by all those who felt her love, faith and service.

Carolyn passed away September 20, 2010, at the age of 93, at her residence, the Sterling House, in Blaine, MN, with the love of her family and many friends surrounding her.
