June Shelander Noren

June Noren of Chisago City, Minnesota, died September 14, 2011, at Margaret S. Parmly Residence. She was 86 years old. She was born on the family farm in Forest Lake, June 27, 1925, to parents Anna Swenson Shelander and Ernest Shelander. June was baptized and confirmed at Faith Lutheran Church in Forest Lake. She graduated from Forest Lake High School May 22, 1943, with an emphasis in business. Forest Lake State Bank was her first employer.

She was united in marriage with Herbert Noren on June 3, 1947 at Faith Lutheran Church. They made their home in Chisago City for the next 11 years. During this time in Chisago City, their three children - Gary, Connie and Brad - were born and baptized at Zion Lutheran Church. For over 30 years they made their home in White Bear Lake. During this time June worked at 3M as an administrative assistant to many executives until her retirement in 1985. June and Herb were active members of First Lutheran Church in White Bear Lake. No matter how important her work, church, and community activities were, June's family and friends were her highest priority, and she was devoted to them.

June and Herb traveled throughout Europe, North America and Mexico and visited Connie in Sweden, Denmark, Australia, and Spain. June was an excellent homemaker and is remembered especially for her rice pudding, Swedish meatballs, and oatmeal bread. She also was very talented musically. After just one music lesson, she taught herself to play accordion, organ, and piano and was always willing to play for family parties, church activities, and community events. June was active in community service, assisted with Meals on Wheels and played accordion with a band in various nursing homes. Some of her creative lifetime interests included flower gardening, flower arranging, crocheting, and sewing.

In the early 1990s, June and Herb returned to the Chisago Lakes area. Family and friends were very happy to have them close by again. In 1997, June and Herb celebrated their 50th anniversary on the Taylors Falls paddleboat on the St. Croix River, surrounded by their family and friends.

June was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert; her parents Anna and Ernest; her brother Raymond (Gertrude) Shelander; sister Ruth (Leonard) Noreen and brother Paul (Lois) Shelander.

June is survived by her son Gary Noren (Marty Harding); daughter, Connie Noren (Peter Veng-Pedersen); son Brad Noren (Betsy Costello) and seven grandchildren: Anders Noren (Carrie Williams-Noren), Peter Noren, Anna Noren, Kirsten Veng-Pedersen, David Veng-Pedersen; Olivia Noren and Charlotte Noren. June also has four great grandchildren: Ingrid and Iris Noren; Caden and Austin Veng-Pedersen. She is also survived by former daughters-in-law Liz Noren and Clarinda Corbett, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
