Center City Council held a regular meeting April 1. All members were present.  The meeting began with Chris DuBose addressing the council as a Rotary representative.  DuBose told the council Rotary has designated the future Swedish Immigrant Trailhead in Center City as a beneficiary of funds.  DuBose suggested the Rotary might fund a kiosk like other trailheads such as Taylors Falls.  The council thanked the Rotary for their generous donation.

Mayor Jill Behnke then presented a card of thanks to Kevin and Kathy Kirvida for their donation to the Swedish Immigrant Trail project.

Behnke then told the council the city has received more complaints about Hursh Ironworks.  Behnke said the complaints were about noise.  Behnke then told the council the county passed a permit  to install a driveway off County Road 12 to alleviate large truck parking along County Road 9.  The driveway will be required to be removed when Hursh eventually moves to Taylors Falls.

The council was then told the city has received the okay from the MN Attorney General to remove the burned house remains on tax forfeit property along Busch Avenue.  Behnke said the demolition and removal will be done by Perry Excavating once the road restrictions are lifted.

In the public works report, the council learned pump #2 in well house #2 is seized and not functioning.  The well is not used and was reserved for fire emergencies.  Maintenance supervisor Shawn Gallagher submitted an estimate quote for the repairs for $15-20,000 depending on the damage to the pump.  Council agreed to have Gallagher get more estimates  and then hold a special meeting and also agreed once fixed, the department should run the pump once a month.

Council member Mark Wolcott said the city has discussed drilling the well deeper in the past due to water quality.  Renner Well drilled the well the first time and suggested going deeper.  The water quality is another reason the well hasn’t been used in years past.

The city then agreed to have city finance director Tom Zine find a place to re-invest some CD’s that are maturing.  The two CD’s total $44,000 and $52,000.

Council then heard the realtor who had been marketing the vacant lot across from the has declined to list the property recently.  The council agreed to seek out a new realtor.

Council then agreed to take down the two Beyond the Yellow Ribbon signs in town. The group has disbanded.

The council then gave permission for Mayor Behnke to attend a League of Minnesota Cities conference in June.

The event is a three day event  in Duluth.

Council adjourned at 7:50pm.
