Despite a huge game from junior Benji Figini, and the confidence of being able to hang with the number-two seeded Lumberjacks, the Chisago Lakes boys basketball team saw their season end abruptly last week in sections.
Despite a noticeable disparity in the team's records, the 9-17 North Branch Vikings earned a home playoff game as the fourth seed against the fifth-seeded 12-14 Hibbing Bluejackets.
Although the North Branch girls basketball team was coming off of a monumental upset in the first round, their momentum wasn't enough to carry them to the section finals for the second year in a row.
After graduating a bulk of their team last year, Chisago Lakes boys swimming and diving Head Coach Mark Nordby figured it'd be no easy task getting guys to the state tournament this year.
Senior Clay Olson (171 pounds) became the first Wildcat wrestler since 1995 to place at the state tournament, coming in fourth place at last week's Class AA tournament at the Xcel Energy Center.
Their only senior on North Branch's roster, John Morrison, led a contingent of four Viking wrestlers to this year's state tournament, held last week at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
The Chisago Lakes boys basketball team, including the varsity, junior varsity and freshman team, all chipped in last week to pack bags of food that are being sent around the world for people in need.
The Chisago Lakes C Squirt Team ended their season by making CLHA history, winning the first ever District 10 Championship in Anoka, coached by Aaron Slagle, Jeremy Nephew and Tim Zaruba.
"What a fantastic day of swimming and time drops," Chisago Lakes swimming and diving Head Coach Mark Nordby raved after the Wildcats' section meet last week.
The Wildcat girls' hockey team, making its first state tournament appearance since 2004 and only the second appearance in team history, won the tournament's consolation championship and proved that they belonged among the best teams in the State of Minnesota.
Congratulations to the Chisago Lakes ninth grade traveling basketball team for taking second place in the 2010 Cottage Grove Boys 35th Annual CGAA Classic Basketball Tournament February 13 and 14.
